The System Elegance Archiver is an easily maintained archiving solution for FusionCapital Summit clients that allows you to move old data out of your primary database to an online, fully up to date archive database.
Cost Savings
Every Summit client has multiple copies of their primary database, with copies for Hot Standby, Start and close of business, reporting, test and development database. Removing data from the primary database delivers significant savings to storage costs, as all of the primary images are reduced in size. There is no need to copy the archive database on a daily basis. The archive database will not have the same performance requirements as the primary database, and can be deployed onto cheaper storage tiers.
Performance Improvements
A smaller primary database will be faster in two key areas:
- Backups are quicker, because there is less data to copy.
- Database reads are faster, because a greater proportion of the database can be cached in system RAM. If you do have to scan a table, this will also be faster.
Archived Data Remains Online
The System Elegance solution deploys a third ‘view’ database, which links together the data in the primary and archive databases. This combined view creates a Summit database with both the primary and archive data in a combined view. You can use this database to provide access to users, auditors and regulators, using the Summit FT Front GUI, Summit API toolkit reports or just SQL queries.
Data Integrity
Data is archived in a safe manner, and is not removed from the primary database before it is committed into the archive database.
Metadata Aware
The software is fully aware of the Summit metadata, and will ensure client extensions are archived along with core data straight out of the box.
Simple Deployment
The archiving software just needs to be unzipped. You just need to provide a Java runtime, version 6.0 or higher, the same version supplied with Summit 5.7. Database setup is simple, with the more detailed steps fully scripted.
Simple Upgrades
When you update the metadata in your primary database, use the tools in the archiver software to apply the same update onto the archive and view databases.
Extensive Module Coverage
The archive program has a range of modules to archive data:
- Market data
- Cancelled and Matured trades
- Pending trades
- Historic versions of live trades
- Reversed accounting postings
- Historic versions of security roles
- Auditlog data
- Historic versions of Bond securities
Each module is configured and enabled separately, so that you can customise the application to match your organisation’s archive policy.
Easy Restore
If you need to restore archived data back to your primary database, it’s a simple task to identify the data before running the restore tool to move it back from the archive into the primary database.
Pull data into the archive from old dumps
If you have data that was removed from the primary database in the past, and is preserved in old database dump files, you can pull that data into your archive database to create a single, online, archive. The software is quite capable of pulling data from old versions of Summit into new versions, and even from different databases.
